For my Texas A&M Computer Science Capstone project, I was assigned to work with IPELINT and a team of 5 other CS seniors. Our task was to develop an AI system to predict certain types of United States patent rejections — we finished development with a 95.1% accuracy on tested patents.
However, I was (and am) concerned about the ethics of this project... I worry that this product could be abused to manipulate the patent ecosystem, and that this risk hasn't been properly handled by the company.
